Borobudur Temple!
Hi
everyone, my name is Adinda. If you want to know me, you can read my previous
post "A Brief Introduction about Me". In this post, I will tell you
about Borobudur Temple in Magelang, Central Java, that I visited last December
with my family.
Borobudur Temple is a 9th
century Mahayana Budhhist Temple in Magelang Regency, Central Java. It's the
world largest buddhist temple. The architect behind this amazing temple is Gunadhrama,
which was later restored by Theodoor van Erp in 1911. The
temple consist of nine stacked platforms, six square, and three sircular,
topped by a central dome. It is decorated with 2.672 relief panels and 504
Buddha statues. The central dome surrounded by 72 Buddha statues, each seated
inside a perforated stupa. Built in the 9th century during the reign of
the Sailendra Dynasty, the temple
design follows Javanese Buddhist architecture, which
blends the Indonesian indigenous cult
of ancestor worship and the
Buddhist concept of attaining Nirvana. The monument is a shrine to the Lord Buddha and a place for Buddhist pilgrimage.
The pilgrim journey begins at the base of the monument
(usually from the east side), and
follows a path around the monument (clockwise), ascending to the top through
three levels symbolic of Buddhist cosmology: Kāmadhātu (the world of
desire), Rupadhatu (the world of
forms) and Arupadhatu (the world of formlessness). The monument guides
pilgrims through an extensive system of stairways and corridors with 1,460
narrative relief panels on the walls and the balustrades. Borobudur has one
of the largest and most complete ensembles of Buddhist reliefs in the world.
Well, that's all that I can described about Borobudur Temple. I know, there are many things that Borobudur have to describe, but I hope this post will help you to know the general description about Borobudur. I’m so grateful that I had the opportunity to visited
this amazing temple with my family. If I may, I want to go there again. And I reccomended you all to visit this beautiful historical temple.
